A Little Ash, A Long Eternity

It began with the shape.

A scarab, ancient, protective, quietly powerful. A form that has travelled through civilizations as a symbol of renewal, of life after life, and of the gentle truth that what we love does not disappear… it transforms.

This scarab, carved from solid onyx, holds that story in its weight. Onyx is a paradox in itself: hard enough to endure for centuries, yet soft in its surface — smooth, rounded, almost warm to the touch. The material feels like a contradiction made whole:
strong and delicate, earthly and spiritual, protective yet inviting.

Inside the scarab rests a symbolic amount of ash. Not hidden away, not confined,
but held safely, with dignity, in a form that knows how to guard. This small portion of remains was divided among the ones left behind, so each could carry a piece of their story forward. What they kept was not just ash, but a thread of connection woven into a form that has represented the afterlife for thousands of years.

The scarab became a quiet companion in their homes. A decorative object to the eye, a sacred guardian to the heart. Placed on a shelf, nestled between books, resting in the curve of a tray, or lying softly in the palm of a hand. Its presence was unmistakable. A reminder without a shout. A symbol without weight on the room.

Like the U-shape that forms the base of For Eturnity, the scarab opens inward. As a vessel of memory, a keeper of stories, a silent bridge between worlds. Its smooth lines echo the softness of a life remembered, while its stone body protects what remains. It holds what matters most: love that survived loss, stories that refused to fade, and a piece of someone who will never fully be gone.
